St. Peters Hospital Abbey Wing

Wife in for second scan after she was told our baby can not be carried full term and pregnancy need be ended... not allowed in with her, cannot change our baby daughters nappy anywhere as no children allowed... Absolutely useless staff and policies! No regard for well-being of the patients they treat!

Front of house staff are very warm and welcoming. Considering it is a maternity wing, you expect compassion and empathy, so I would say 5* for those working the front desks! I first went in for a 12 week scan early May 2020 with a lovely midwife/sonographer who was helpful, informative, compassionate and sensitive that it is my first baby, having no idea what to expect and also a heap of natural fears, she was wonderful. Unfortunately, St Peter's had and have very strict rules, due to covid-19, so my husband couldn't come with me understandably. Now, this ONE STAR review is based on my experience with the sonographer this week July 2020, for my 20 week scan (I am now 21 weeks). My goodness the worst bedside manner I have received in a medical environment. I appreciate in the medical field having to be cold, matter of fact, to the point and not very informative when they're trying to search for data to make sure everything is OK. But she was rude, didn't really give me time to see my baby, the screen in the room was broken so I couldn't see anything, she showed me briefly and I wanted to cry because the image was so blurry. I was very anxious and tense, my anxiety is through the roof at the moment with this pandemic, and seeing that the hospital was so packed this time. All she could say was well if you tense up we can't get it right so relax. Oh the fury building up in me didn't help. She constantly dropped disclaimers after telling me everything is ok, or "it's fine", I really wondered who had damaged this poor lady for her to be so terrible. Thankfully, my sister who had her scan once with the same woman shared the same experience!! NOT AT ALL THE PERSONALITY you want when you want to make sure your baby has 10 little fingers and toes (which she didn't check to reassure me) or that the baby's face was ok, lips and eyes etc... she was so so awful, I would like to call the hospital and tell them I was not reassured by this process feeling that everything is in fact OK, having waited another 10 weeks to see my baby... and having quite high expectations of care throughout. When I went across the ward to then do a routine urine analysis and BP check, a lady asked me who sent me over (just as all patients were being sent right over from their scans) then went on to discuss that thats not the protocol with another member of staff; my first thought was, I don't work here, I have been directed to arrive at this desk for the next stage. SO all in all a little disappointed with their care and hope this only improves. I can assure you I will refuse for that lady to be in any room with me when I visit Abbey wing next. Leave your sour persona at home, or pick a new job, maybe scanning bones? Awful awful experience for my 20 week scan with this "senior sonographer".

6 days labour pain and this type of service make me feel like I am not even in labour pain I just had my baby yesterday and I had to stay for 3 days in the hospital with horrible pain I was in under observation midwife. Maternity name libby Anderson(not sure if this is the full name) who's excellent service with lovely smile and friendly manner can make anyone forget about any pain. She deserves best stuff award. honestly...can't remember the lady name(Angela probably)who did my delivery was another fantastic midwife. The way she gave me directions to do everything and also she understands my situation that she didn't force or kinda insist anything to do things just happen the way they explain...
