Had a pleasant Afternoon Tea here as a gift nice room and lovely food. Staff were friendly and attentive especially the reception staff. Had a walk around the grounds which are nice if a bit unkept. The atmosphere in the hotel is a bit soulless at the moment - could do with a wealthy enthusiastic visionary leader taking over to bring it to the standard it deserves.

Customer service could do with improvements - a courtesy good morning Miss Marvellous, how was your evening - goes a long way. Breakfast was not of a good standard - could have better at a supermarket who have a cafe on site. Don’t stay in room 1. Room was ok but better rooms seen online - couldn’t close the bathroom door - that was an impossible feat. Door on my floor kept banging which in turn caused the room door to shake as if someone is trying to get in - was very noisy. Ask for a different room if possible.

So its a 4 star, I'll be honest if you book to stay take your sense of humour think Faulty towers! It should in some ways be a lower rating or maybe a higher. The TV's were out of action as was the WiFi not the end of the world for us but for some people it might be, the fridges were broken so the resurant was closed. That being said they did manage to do a wonderful cooked breakfast in the morning and it was fab, the staff were amazing they really were and it's thank to them that we had an amazing week.

We stayed at this hotel for consecutive saturdays in august. The hotel is easy to access of the M1, close free parking and the building itself you can just tell is steeped in history. A friendly welcome at reception and we were off to our room. It was huge and a bathroom the size of a small bedroom! Try and avoid room 12 as when googling the history of the hotel, there are a few ghost tour websites it comes up on including the 'infamous' room 12. Didn't make for the best nights sleep! All was well in the end thankfully! Breakfast was a choice between hot and cold, would recommend the english breakfast, very good! As a fairly cheap but interesting hotel set in nice grounds with friendly staff and a comfortable bed i'd definitely recommend, just avoid room 12 if you believe in ghosts!

Charlotte on reception was brilliant, nothing too much trouble. Do not visit if you are expecting a spa, swim or treatment. We were told before arrival that spa closed due to covid. A resident in OAP village on same land as hotel told us that the leisure complex had been closed for 4 years!!! Sadly the hotel is a money making venture for the owner who is not interested in the beauty of the place. This grand old building is tired and the gardens overgrown and unloved. Breakfast was odd, had run out of basic things like side plates, jam, marmalade etc. Hotel room was lovely but again let down by the little things such as holes in blinds, fingerprints on wall(!) and one pack of three biscuits for two people. There was no WiFi or television reception at all. Needs attention to detail, then it might be worth another visit. If you have booked, ring to make sure it is what you are expecting.
