No idea what it is, but are smiles and more than 3 words really that hard to muster? I don't know if it's me but I feel like they're polite enough (at a push) with the people in front, but then I get to the counter, and it looks like I've just told them a family member has died. The Alvaston branch is so much nicer to work with.

I work as a home care worker mainly for the elderly and vulnerable. I went to change some euros into pounds so I could provide these clients with much needed groceries to help them through this crisis. however they have refused to exchange this money, even though they have done in the past! I find this atrocious and hope you are happy that clients are now going without!.
