I arrived on a wet December afternoon so perhaps not the best 1st impression of Bickleigh Castle. Greeted by the owner I was shown to my room which was dated but comfortable enough for 1 night's stay. Breakfast was excellent & the host was very friendly. Bickleigh Castle has bags of character & I can see why it's a popular venue for weddings, I'll return for another visit in the summertime when hopefully the Covid restrictions are lifted and I can explore the castle and surrounding area a bit more.
Absolutely stunning place to stay. The staff here are fantastic and are willing to help with anything. Highly recommend anyone to stay here, especially in the Tudor room!!
The pictures advertised are very misleading, although the grounds are nice, the property and all the rooms are very dirty and run down. Sarah's only interest is to make money off her guests without giving them anything in return.
The mattresses are very old and uncomfortable, the bedrooms and bathrooms are very dirty and full of cobwebs.
A shame that this castle is owned by them, as they have no interest in maintaining this historical castle.
Avoid staying here, the place is dirty and mismanaged.
Just check the documantry on channel 4 to get an idea of how this place is run.
Beautiful grounds, great hospitality and fantastic location. Some amazing walks and totally drowning in history, we loved it.
Room needed to be refurbished. We booked in for two days mini break. We left after the first night and found another hotel . The bed was so uncomfortable we both were in pain after spending the night. Bathroom had toilet roll holder broken and on the floor. Spiders webs at the side of the toilet. Unable to use the shower due to the amount of wasps. The female owner ( we think) was rude when we were booking . She told me she was in a rush. We asked for a drink at the bar, again she made us feel we were asking for the impossible! We went into Tiverton and paid £28 return fare. At breakfast the toaster to ages to toast . Needs replacement. Breakfast ok however they left the crust off the loaf out for guests to use. The rooms cupboard doors didn’t shut properly. The mattress protector was falling apart, the bed was so stained it needed to go to the skip. Very pretty location. We will not be returning.
