The Horseshoe Inn

Wonderful Borders restaurant -- close enough to Edinburgh to visit for lunch during the current lockdown... excellent Sunday roast (Yorkshire puds like radar dishes, and the best beef I've tasted, in a rich sauce. The lamb rump roast is great too.) Nice atmosphere.

This is a proper country pub and restaurant. They provide quality award winning fair, from their extensive menu. Good local brews are available on tap. All the staff are more than happy to help out and greet you with a smile.

Pleasant and welcoming staff. Stopped for coffee and scones en route to Peebles. Sat outside in beer garden as it was a pleasant day, so can't comment on indoor ambience, but nothing was too much trouble for very pleasant waitress who served us. Would happily return.

Booked a room in coach house and meal in restaurant to celebrate wedding anniversary. On arrival given keys to Room 4, meant to be classic double, classic in all the wrong ways!! Room tiny with very little light and view onto a dirty flat roof and loft space of adjacent building. Bed was tiny also, smallest double bed i've ever seen. Queen 3/4 size bed at best. Only seat in room was an ageing tiny chair fit for a five year old child or a 'Hobbit" Quite how we were to sleep or relax in the room was beyond me. Complained immediately but told owner away till following Tuesday and we had to pay. I had originally mistakingly booked room for single occupancy but clarified by e mail I was booking a twin/ double as per their website. Asked to be switched to king size twin double which was still available on website. Room allocated was not room on website. Manager said strangely they were not responsible for website and other rooms booked "minutes before my booking!!! Apologised profusely for not replying to my e mail and confirming room we were in Owner replied following Tuesday and stated chair was not on list of furniture for the room. Seriously no chair to sit on in a room!!! Not interested about my complaint. Cancelled meal at night left and went to Barony Castle, who found us a room despite being fully booked, put a bottle of prosecco in our room and gave us a discount on dinner. Now that's service. Horseshoe then compounded matters by sending us a message on the Monday thanking us for our custom ,hoping we had a lovely stay and meal. Can't print my thoughts on that. Room totally unacceptable customer service nil.
