This is a unique pub. Landlord and Land Lady are true to their titles.
Locals love this pub.... People travel from miles to return for the food and entertainment nights. (You need to book at least 3 days in advance plus for food.) Large parties catered for.
This is not a Weatherspoons / Modern pub. The Anchor Inn is rustic and remains the same for many decades. With no modern upgrades.
You certainly don’t find pubs like this in the 21st century. It’s a step back in time, to an era before hygiene inspections, although to its credit there’s a good selection of locally brewed beers on offer. Local reputation precedes it, so for this reason alone (and the fact it’s a very authentic and rustic experience), it’s a memorable visit if you’re passing through the area.
Wasn't open at time
The Anchor Inn is a pub with its own charm and is, in many ways, a step into the past. It is open evenings only with the exception of Sunday lunchtimes, and will only provide food with advanced notice (call ahead to book). The Landlord is extremely welcoming and his wife makes hearty flavourful home-cooked food (curries with real whole spices a speciality).
This is a local institution primarily visited by the nearby farmers, but as incomers we have been welcomed and enjoy the home cooked food and the well kept beer (both very reasonably priced).
The pub, in common with many such old stone buildings, tends to maintain a fairly constant temperature year-round - pleasantly cool in summer, but necessitating proximity to the open fire / log stove, or appropriate warm clothing in winter.
Pool table available; no music or television. Well worth a visit - don't let appearances put you off -- this is a down-to-earth rural local of a sort that is now rather rare.
great place to finish a long walk across Wales
