A tremendously cozy experience with minimal phone signal and headroom but maximum hot water and good vibes , regarding the so called breakfast baps - Would YHA hostel buy facon if it could? Certainly. Do they have the financial resources? Probably. Would they use it instead of real bacon? Definitely. Having said this, you will get enough protein and advice to survive pen y fan -fulfilling the old adage 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth' , at least when looking for accommodation in the lush, expansive and fragrant Brecon Beacons

The people here were lovely (shout out to the exceptional service we received from Liz who worked hard to correct a mistake with our booking). You can easily drop down onto the Taff Trail and walk along to the base of Pen-y-Fan (it's about a 30 minute walk to the start of the mountain path). We stayed in the newest 'land pod' and enjoyed the fantastic (albeit rainy) view out across the rolling countryside and the gentle lowing of the cows in the distance. Would recommend.

We travelled to the hostel via the T4 bus from Newtown, getting off at the Llwyn y Celyn stop. The spot is very quaint and picturesque. As we didnt have a car, we unfortunately couldn't get to the four waterfalls walk, but there was a walk nearby that was very lovely. We were provided some firelighters and kindling to start a fire in the pit provided outside which we were grateful for as it was a slightly rainy weekend. The staff were lovely. We were able to grab (takeaway) food one night which was nice and filling. We stayed in a landpod, and to our surprise the bedding provided kept us very warm! The pods do have a solar powered light and charging point but if charging your phone, the electricity won't last long. It was a nice getaway and I appreciated the covid restrictions in place. I definitely do not recommend doing the trip by public transport like we did as your options will be very limited!

Loved this place so much. Counting the days. Visit the cows on the way to Pen Y Fan!
