Been to this hotel twice now. We actually got married here. We went half board - breakfast and dinner were excellent quality - didn't feel like leftovers 😊 the rooms were lovely, very clean, comfortable and we were surprised by the space. The photographs online made the rooms appear small but actually there's plenty of space. I would highly recommend spending the money for a sea view room. The spa was fantastic and in August 2018 was free entry and to use facilities you were only paying for treatments. There is plenty to do on the island and with free transfers back and forth between island and mainland its great if you want to spend all day on the water. Transfers were reliable but predictably weather dependent. Reasonably priced drinks and snacks on the island but cheaper on the mainland - loved the pizza there though! Pool was big and never struggled to find a bed. Just a great all round holiday. Staff couldn't do enough to help.
Visited island on day trip from Rovinj. Very pleasant hotel entrance and public areas. Hotel opens up to large swimming pools overlooking the adjacent island. Super area for sea bathing. You must wander over the causeway to the little island restaurant and see the mauseleum. We marvelled at the pheasants and wild birds who came out of the woods to greet us. Very nice former church making for atmospheric evening meals.
It was a lovely hotel. Beautiful places to walk. Sunbathe. Pool area was nice. But restaurant was like the m25 at all times. Struggled to get a seat
Overall, a positive experience, a nicely renovated hotel. A couple of comments though:
Staff is friendly, polite. But the reception process is painfully slow and there were long queues of guests upon arrival and departure. We had a dinner event waiting for us upon arrival and had to catch a boat on departure; the slow check-in/check-out processes almost made us late for both.
We did not go to breakfast because you serve it only from 7 until 10. We stayed until late at the event in the evening/night and did not get to breakfast until 10. At a resort / vacation site like hotel Istra, breakfast should be served longer.
The car parking and free island transfer is nice, appreciated, works quite well. The only comment is that the traffic organization at the reception will have to be improved, with only a few cars there on Sunday morning it quickly became messy. I cannot imagine how it will be like in high season!
Had a nice short weekend stay. Apart for the above comments, it would have been perfect.
We were in the hotel in July 2020, surely during the still ongoing corona conditions. The parking for the car is on a several protected area and a shuttle bus (Renault Traffic). The passage by ship to the island is about 15 min. Arriving there the 1st impression was quite ok. The rooms are already a bit older but if you have a room to sea side it is enjoyable. The breakfast is average with an offer about everything. The coffee is served on hot plates and nothing special. The breakfast area was very crowded. Also in the evening the atmosphere is similar to a company cantina - very crowded and not quite calm. This is the reason we often went to Rovinj to have dinner there. At the hotel you have also an a la carte restaurant. The food over there is much better but also surely more expensive. Considering the beach side you have also places which are more calm. But considering that the hotel was only occupied by a share of 60% I really ask myself how it should work with higher amount of people. Even you need to go already in the early morning to beach side in order to get a proper place. This is a bit disappointing because I expected that there will be enough space. Also important that you have a lot of children so also not that calm always. It is just sth what you need to know when going there.
