There is NO PROOF of this being HABUNG. Anyone who has read Assam history will know that Habung was never a capital of Ahom kingdom. It was just a place, (4th place in Assam), where the refugee Tais lived for 4 years returning to Charaideo to build their first capital. There is no ruins of any temple. All these are new creations. Habung was originally an extensive province where Kamrupa kings(Ratnapala) issued land grants to Brahmins and hence the term Habungia Brahmins originated. It includes the entire region of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji. In 1990s, an Ahom revivalist named Chao Nogen Hazarika, who was then the ADC of Dhemaji claimed this place to be Habung without the presence of any historical evidence, practically misusing his position of power. Since then, history has been manipulated to suit political needs. Habung was a province of Chutia kingdom after the fall of Kamrupa as evident in the copperplate inscription of the Chutia general Habungadhipati Sri Vrihatpatra dates 1428 A.D. This particular place was know just by the name Tai bheti and was perhaps just a garrison in Habunga province of Chutia kingdom, where the Tais encamped in order to annex the Chutia kingdom, somewhere between 1512-1524 as mentioned in Buranjis
