Sri Mankameshwar temple is located near the River Yamuna, in proximity to Saraswati Ghat . It is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva and it features beautiful statues of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On Mondays, the temple attracts extraordinary crowds of devotees offering milk, flowers, and many other eatables to the Lord and the Goddess, making it one of the most popular places to see in Allahabad.nnThe construction of the temple is noted for sculptures carved on the walls and different pillars. Some of the sculptures are elaborately colored. Frescoes are engraved on the four walls of the temple, making it look aesthetically pleasing while also depicting tales from the Hindu Mythology. .nnIt is believed that the temple was established by Lord Suryadev in Tretayuga. Prayer for 51 days with true heart in the temple premises helps one to get freedom from all kinds of economic debts.nnThere are rare Shivalingas in the pilgrimage of Tirthraj Prayag, whose mere wish fulfills every human desire and Mankameshwar Mahadev's Shivalinga is one of them. It is mentioned in the name of 'Kameshwar Tirtha' in Shiva Purana, Padma Purana and Skanda Purana. In the Treta Yuga, when Lord Rama went to exile and came to Prayag for some time, he rested under the Akshayavat and performed Jalabhishek of this Shivling.nnDuring Sawan month on the Mondays the temple is heavily thronged by pilgrims.
