Galchaura temple is barely 3-4 kms away from the Lohaghat town. One has to leave the highway towards Abbot Mount and take a sharp left diversion while exiting the town. After crossing few villages one reaches Suin, a beautiful meadow area which also houses ITBP station. An open air temple will be in front of you. A black stone pillar is the main deity which is interesting. There are some carvings on the stone pillar, a horsemen being the prominent one. A thick pine forest behind the temple gives it a beautiful background. Another bugyal (meadow) is in front of the temple. There is some history to Galchaura, it is said that there was a demon who used to live here who killed people and later to satisfy him a tradition of giving animal sacrifice was started later this practice has been stopped. On the right side outside the boundary wall is the platform where this sacrifice was conducted. From the tea shops near Galchaura, you could try Katki, a local sweet made out of curdling milk.
