I'm a Computer Science intern here at ARIES and was here for around 3 months before 2021 Covid-19 lockdown. This place is a literal heaven! Such a calm and peaceful environment. They have a 1m astronomical optical telescope named Sampoornananda. Another highlights of the campus are the solar telescope and a Stratosphere Troposphere Radar for atmospheric studies. The PhDs and postdocs are so chill and helpful. The observing facilities here are amazing and are worth a visit as a visitor.

The 3.6m Devasthal Optical Telescope is a custom-built instrument of great complexity. This telescope has the distinction of being largest telescope in India for study of celestial objects at optical wavelengths. It is a national facility installed at Devasthal in the district of Nainital, India. It was commissioned in the year 2016 and is being maintained and operated by ARIES. The 3.6m DOT facility consists of a modern 3.6 meter optical new technology telescope, a suite of instruments, an Aluminium coating plant, a control room and a data center. The back-end instruments of telescope provide spectral and imaging capabilities at visible and near-infrared bands.

Nowadays due to Novel corona pandemic this place is closed. And the contact no. is also wrong I think. No one is picking the calls. So if someone want to visit this place then how should they inquire about the place.

Aryabhatta Research Institute gives best opportunity for astronomers at any stage of their research. Tourists can also learn about the basics of astronomy in the dome theatre and in the evenings watch the planets through the 8 inch telescope. It's mesmerizing ud83eudd29
