Mont Saint Michel is one of the most important tourist sites in France. It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1979.nnMont-Saint Michel is in the middle of a bay of 500 square kilometers located southwest of the department of Manche in Normandy. This bay is famous for its high tides. Indeed, the tides of this bay are the largest tides in Europe: the sea disappears for ten kilometers then returns at the speed of a galloping horse.nnThe Abbey of Mont Saint-Michel is a place of pilgrimage. Its religious and military architecture dates from the medieval period. You can admire the bay from the west terrace. At the abbey, you can take guided tours, see entertainment and attend concerts all year round.nnAround Mont Saint-Michel, there are the beaches and the old town of Granville, the Chausay Islands, which are very popular for excursions, and the manuscript museum in Avranches.nnLocal specialties are numerous. You must taste at least three:nnMother Poulard's omeletnthe salted lambnthe pancakesnSleeping at Mont Saint-Michel is possible, the Saint-Pierre hotel (near the abbey) offers double rooms ranging from 198 to 255 €, breakfast is from 17 €. Moving a little further, we find rooms from € 63 per person (including breakfast) at the Mercure hotel located two kilometers from Mont Saint-Michel.nnYou can get to Mont Saint-Michel from Paris. To do this, take the TGV to Rennes, then the express bus line between Rennes and Mont Saint-Michel.
