HALAKURA COLLEGE : A BRIEF OVERVIEWnnHalakura College has completed 25 years of its glorious existence. The journey began way back in 1991 when some enterprising men of the locality joined hands to make their dream a reality. Earlier the aspiring young boys and girls of Halakura and adjoining villages used to knock the doors of urban and semi-urban colleges so as to achieve their higher educational goals. Under such circumstances, the e countryside of this western - most part of Dhubri was a necessity, but it was, no doubt, a big deal and things were not that easy. However, with the passing of time it became a reality. Classes began in the abandoned premises of an Handloom center by the side of the N.H. 31 (Now Police Check Post). Later the college was shifted to its present building setting up of a college in the establishment of the college at Halakura definitely opened new avenues and created unprecedented opportunities of having an easy access to higher education and enlightenment for the poor and the needy village folk of this backward region. Thousands of local aspirants got enrolled, passed out and became dignified graduates. Armed with a new awareness, the graduates of the locality dared to set out for different universities in their effort to acquire knowledge. The college also boasts of three of its students who joined the college as faculties after successfully completing their masters and they are now our assets, to speak the truth. The College now stands at a plot of 28 bighas of land with its own buildings and other resources The College began to receive Ad - hoc grants from the Govt. of Assam from the year 1994-95 and in the year 2006 it was brought under Financial Aid Scheme and was finally provincialised in 2013. The college has only one stream, i.e. Arts and it offers degree course with the following subjects:n1. Assamese (Pass & Major)n2. English (Pass & Major)n3. Economics (Pass & Major)n4. Bengali (Pass & Major)nThe College has a well equipped library enriched with innumerable books, journal and magazines for the benefit of the students and faculties. At present the construction of a Digital Library & Digital Class Room is underway. The College also offers self financing courses under K.K. Handique University Study centre in its campus. The centre is offering distance Learning in different subjects. The College is also running D.EI.Ed.
