Raisen Fort is located 40 km from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. The fort is dilapidated due to lack of care. A lot of stairs have to be climbed to reach the fort.nEnjoy it if the weather is good
The specialty of this fort was extremely important due to it being situated on a high inaccessible hill. Maurya kings also understood the importance of this fort due to its proximity to the ancient Rajpath which was from Ujjain to Magadha.nnDue to its strategic position and under the leadership of intelligent brave kings, it was a very rich and prosperous fortress, due to which it was targeted by the enemies.nnParmar Raja Rai Singh, who was extremely ambitious, who ruled the Raisen fort from the end of the twelfth century to the thirteenth century, was keenly interested in art and architecture, renovated the fort, and built magnificent palaces, temples and huge ponds. Badal Mahal was one such magnificent building, a royal palace whose ruins are also witness to its golden and magnificent history.nnBadal Mahal was a magnificent, grand and glorious palace which also symbolized the pride of the Rajavasini. This palace is mainly a cluster of buildings based on two and three floors. In which many terraces, Rooms, Halls, spacious courtyard with symmetrical buildings on either side of it presents an example of efficient secular architecture style. Grand pool with canopies etc are also spectacular. The roofs of the rooms built at the corners are covered with attractive domes which are bulbous in shape and the base of the dome is octagonal. The roof of the central part is also domed. The structure of each dome represents the imagery of heaven i.e. happiness, peace, perfection, eternity etc. The square shape base represents the planet.nnBalconies that are having special features built on stone columns and hanging on brackets have been embellished by carvings and topped with domes on rectangular base. The entrance of this palace is situated in the middle of the western wall. The entire palace is based on stone masonry, stone pillars and beams in which the lime slurry and lime mortar has been used.nnIt's an ancient fort and this fascinating ruins and structures are major attraction among the tourists history buffs art and culture lovers.
