Veerabhadra Swamy temple, at Pattisama on hill Devakuta in midst of river Godavari, 40 Km from Rajahmundry Andhra Pradesh. This temple is considered as Pancha Kashi Kshetram(Srisailam Kasi Kedaram Kalahasthi and Pattiseema)|nThese five are mentioned in Skaanda puranam as pancha Kasi kshetras.nIt is in the midst of river Godavari; Main deities in this temple are Lord Shiva is Self manifested as Veerabhadreswara swamy and Goddess Sathi as goddess Bhadra Kali. According to temple’s history Gouthama Buddha did Dhyanam here.nAfter reaching Pattiseema village only means of transport is boat or launch to reach temple. This 10 min ride through river is beautiful experience. It is beautiful island surrounded by Papi hills.nThis temple is also called as Pattisam Veerabhadra temple. According to legend once mountains used to have wings, when they are landing at that place there so much loss of people and property. So God’s king Devendra cut the wings of them. So these mountains are called as Devakutadri mountains or Neeladri mountains. Mountain’s king is Karaveera, his son did penance for Lord Shiva and asked Lord to stay on him(as mountain). Then Lord gave him word to stay there in the form of Shiva Lingam.nAfter few years Dakshaprajapati did Yagna inviting all Gods and goddess. But he didn’t invite Lord Shiva and her daughter goddess Sati Devi. After asking permission goddess went to his father’s Yagna. But his father insulted her and Lord Shiva. Due to this goddess jumped into the fire of Yagna. Due to this Lord Shiva got angry and from his Jatajutam (hair)plucked lock of hair and thrown to ground, from that born Veerabhadra swamy (incarnation lord Shiva) & Bhadrakali.nThen Veerabhadra swamy cut the head king Daksha with Pattisa (warriors instrument). After killing him the rage was very high. And danced Rudra Thandavam on Devakuta Parvatha. After considering all gods request and specially Sage Agasthya embraced him with his hands to cool and make him to calm down. Finally asked to settle here in the form of Shiva Linga(self- manifested) on this hillock as mentioned in SKANDA PURANAM. We can see hand prints on Shiva Lingam on square panel.nVeerabhadra swamy cleaned his pattisam in this river Godavari. From then this places is called as Pattisam or Pattisachala kshetram.nTemple construction -As per Mythology temple constructed by Vishwa Karma. According to history temple belongs to 12th century, constructed by Reddy kings. Khetra palaka of temple is Lakshmi sahitha sri Bhavana Naraya swamy - one of Five Bhavannarayana swamy temples of India located in Andhra pradesh. Also installed are Sita Ramabhadra swamy temple, Kala Bhaivarava temple, subrahmanya swamy, goddess Saraswati, lakshmi Ganapathi, Suryanarayana swamy& sri thandava Veerabhadra swamy. There is a big Hanuman statue at Pattiseema boating point. Near to this Devakuta hillock there is a hill called Elephant hill (Aanugu shila) where god Sri Maha Vishnu gave salvation to Elephant mentioned in Gajendra moksham. Must have darshan of this ancient and scenic temple.

Pattiseema is about 1.5 hours from Rajamahendravaram. It is a beautiful scenic place, with an island temple.nAmidst water on all sides, this temple stands Elegantly over a hillock. One needs to climb about a hundred steps in all to see all the deities.nFrom one side of the banks of the river, there are ferries that charge you a nominal fee of Rs. 20 and take you across the shore to the temple. Once inside, you again need to pay another Rs. 20 to get up the temple.nnTake your own sweet time to enjoy, relax and calm yourself down. Read the history of the place before visiting; you will enjoy it even more.

Saiva Temple on small island in the middle of Godavari River. Very serene surroundings, good place to pray, meditate and get some recharge of godly spirit. better visit this place in days when it is not crowded with pilgrims. It would be a memorable experience. place is also starting point for Boat cruise to Papikondalu and Badrachalam. 25 km from nearest Railway station Kovvuru, 30 Km from Rajahmundry, a major Railway station and airport.
