Mahabhairab Temple is a pilgrimage centre, located in the northern part of Tezpur. This temple is mainly dedicated to Lord Shiva. The main highlights of this temple is the Shiva Lingam, which is considered as one of the largest Lingam in the world.nThe original temple is believed to be constructed by King Bana(Banasura), and was made of stone. However, the original temple was destroyed in a massive earthquake in 1897. The present one was constructed during the early part of the 20th century. In the recent times, many new renovations and reconstructions of Mahabhairab temple have been planned and carried out by the DC of the Sonitpur district of Assam.nThe most important festival observed at Mahabhairab temple is Shivaratri. Besides, the temple is filled with thousand of devotees everyday in the month of Shravan, known as 'Savan mas' (5th month of the Hindu calendar), with the slogans of 'Bol-Bam, Bol-Bam' , the environment of the region becomes spiritually elevated one.nMake sure to visit this temple.
