After a long drive from Munnar, looking forward to reaching Vembanad house to destress and relax, the location was 12 kms away from main Alleppey! Located right inside a small village, which can work both ways - either rurally exotic (if that's what you are interested in) or super remote. Nothing around, no shops no street lights. Once you reach, you are in lockdown. The property while traditional, decorated tastefully and clean, is super isolated. After sundown no chance to walk around the property. Infested with night insects it is impossible to try and enjoy the outdoors. The kitchen/dining area is situated externally. No phones or ways to communicate from your room if you need anything. The lounge has a fridge but nothing offered except water. We requested for some coke which we got, presumably someone had to go few kms to get it. No TVs in the room, basic toiletries (cinthol soap). Clean rooms with antique furniture, ac, and clean bed linens. But for me, a seasoned traveller, zero value for money (the charges are hefty). Dinner was home cooked meal - appreciate the effort, but very basic. My family were so tired from the traveling since we arrived in Kerala, this was supposed to be the oasis of our trip. Yes, it's at the bank of lake Vembanad, but hardly inspirational. A vast water body, beautiful in the morning, with gentle breeze but that's it. After early morning it is too humid to hang outside. Booked for two nights, we were the only guests. Requested the owners to cancel one night as all 4 of us (two teenage kids) were exhausted from the drives with bad roads and wanted to cut short the stay at Alleppey to go directly to Cochin to avoid travelling the day of our flight. We were charged 50% cancellation inspite of reaching at 6 and wanting to check out next day by 10. Understandable, if it was fair play. But considering the service, and location, pretty dissatisfied.

Absolutely amazing stay there. We had the house to ourselves. The hosts were very caring and welcoming. The land is stunning with a large garden and a river just by the lake. There are some hamacs by the water and a nice little hut structure to rest in. And most of all the food was absolutely amazing!
