Javari Temple, Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, India The Javari Temple in Khajuraho, India, is a Hindu temple, which forms part of the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built between c. 975 and 1100 A.D. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu. The main idol of the temple is broken and headless. The temple is located in the eastern area of Khajuraho. It is near to and visible from Vamana Temple, and at a distance of about 200 meters (south) from it. It has well-proportioned architecture, with a sanctum, vestibule, mandapa and portico, but without pradakshinapatha. It has remable Makara Torana (Capricorn Arch) and shikhara (top). It has three bands of carved sculptures on the outer wall. The temple has a close resemblance with Chaturbhuja Temple, also at Khajuraho.

The importance of Khajuraho has been proved since ancient times as the city of Shiva. Today it is world famous for the temples built in its Nagra style Architecture and excellent Sculptures. Khajuraho is known for its ornate temples which are the finest medieval monuments in the country. One of these temples is the Javari Temple. Javari temple is built on a raised platform and located in the Eastern Group of temples. It was built in 1100 AD. Its magnificent Architecture is fascinating the spectators though it's a small temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. At the entrance a garland hold by Crocodiles either side known as Makar Torana mean archway and it signifies that the Ganga is looking after the temple. Entrance porch, hall, vestibule and sanctum Sanctorum where the presiding deity is Lord Vishnu and image is broken. It doesn't have the inner circumambulatory. Interior is quite elegant and balconied windows though the sanctum Sanctorum is having the access through entrance door. As always Sculptures of Brahma Vishnu and Mahesh are there on the entrance and central image indicates about the presiding deity. At the top Navagraha mean Galaxy's Sculpture is also noteworthy. Exterior walls are decorated with two straps of Sculptures and the roof is adorned with stylish towers as the peak of the entrance tower is the lowest and above the sanctum Sanctorum is the tallest. It needs half an hour and interested viewers may spend accordingly. It's a major attraction among the history buffs wanderers soulseekers heritage art and architecture lovers.
