Kerala Kalamandalam is the premiere public institution in India focussed on imparting classical art forms of Kerala like Kathakali, Kudiyattam, Mohiniyaattam, Thullal, Panchavaadyam etc.nnKalamandalam has 2 campuses one is called as Nila campus and other as Main campus. The Administrative Office functions at the main campus. The main campus is located on the main road between Thrissur and Shoranur. 'Vallathol Nagar' Railway Station is a local station to reach here via railway.nnTourists are allowed to visit the campus by taking tickets during the working hours in day time. As part of imparting learning about performance arts to school students, there are specific slots allotted on every Thursday - this has to be booked in advance. Public can book any of their performances to any location, based on a prior agreement with the institute. 'Nila Fest' is one of their key annual event. They also maintain a museum namely Vallathol Museum.nnMajority of Arangettam (the first formal performance a performer in a stage to a larger crowd) and many other seasonal performances are conducted during the late evening slot to early morning slot. Majority of them are open to public as well.nnThe campus is residential. Here the training of various art forms essentially adheres to the ancient Gurukula Sambradaaya - it's a traditional mode of education which calls for a deep bond between the teacher and the student. The training sessions start early in morning around 4am and followed by classroom trainings in the morning half of the day. The training/ teaching activities will end by noon.

Kerala Kalamandalam, the cultural repository of Kerala, founded in 1927, by the famous poet Vallathol Narayana Menon to revive the art and dance form of Kerala, which was heralded as Kerala's first institution to provide training in classical performing arts. The introduction of Kalamandalam gave rebirth to the two classical forms of dancing, Mohiniyattam, and Kathakali, which were slowly loosing importance. It is situated 32 km from Thrissur, on the banks of Bharathapuzha river in Cheruthuruthy. The Institution also offers training in other traditional dance forms of Kerala.

Kerala Kalamandalam, deemed to be University of Art and Culture by the Government of India, is a major center for learning Indian performing arts, especially those that developed in the Southern states of India, with the special emphasis on Kerala. It is situated in the small town of Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur, Thrissur District on the banks of the Bharathapuzha river.nThe inception of Kalamandalam gave a second life to three major classical dance performing arts of Kerala as Kathakali, Kudiyattam and Mohiniyattam were, by the turn of the 20th century, facing the threat of extinction under various regulations of the colonial authorities. It was at this juncture, in 1927, that Vallathol Narayana Menon and Mukunda Raja came forward and formed a society called Kerala Kalamandalam. They solicited donations from the public and conducted a lottery in order to raise funds for this society. Kerala Kalamandalam was inaugurated in November 1930 at Kunnamkulam, Kakkad, and was later shifted to the village of Cheruthuruthy, just south of Shoranur in 1933. The Maharaja of Cochin donated land and a building. Subsequently, a dance department was started to revive Mohiniyattom. Kerala Kalamandalam has been functioning as a grant-in-aid institution under the Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Kerala. In 2007, the Kalamandalam was accorded the status of 'Deemed University for Art and Culture' by the Government of India. In 2010, University Grants Commission (India) has given 'A' category status for Kerala Kalamandalam. Kalamandalam is the only deemed university in Kerala state accorded the prestigious status.nThe first Prime Minister to visit Kerala Kalamandalam is Jawaharlal Nehru in 1955 for the Silver Jubilee of the Kerala Kalamandalam. Indira Gandhi was the second Prime Minister to visit Kerala Kalamandalam in 1980 and V. P. Singh in 1990. Manmohan Singh is the fourth Prime Minister to visit Kerala Kalamandalam in September 2012.
