The Barnala is 20th district of Indian state of Punjab. It is a well-known City in the center of the Malwa region. Barnala was declared a district on 19th November 2006 by partitioning the erstwhile Sangrur district. Barnala is a small district both in terms of population and area. The district is surrounded by Ludhiana and Moga districts in the North, Sangrur district in the East, Mansa district in the South, and Bathinda district in the Southwest. It has a diverse population supporting local industries and food businesses. The seat of Parliament is attached with Sangrur. Barnala is situated in the heart of Punjab. Before upgrading the status of Barnala as a District, it was a part of the Sangrur district. District Barnala has two sub-divisions Barnala and Tapa, three sub-tehsil Tapa, Bhadaur, Dhanaula, and three blocks Barnala, Sehna, and Mehal Kalan. The district has 5 Municipal committees. It consists of 17 kanungo circles, 170 patwar circles and 207 revenue villages with the district headquarter at Barnala. There are 130 villages and 158 Gram Panchayats.nBarnala was created as Police District on 16 December 1991 with Police Stations City Barnala, Sadar Barnala, Dhanaula, Tappa, Sethna, Bhadaur, Mehal Kalan, and Sherpur. This Police District was converted into Revenue District on 19th November 2006 during which Police Station Sherpur was transferred to District Sangrur and new Police Stations Rureke Kalan, Tallewal, Thuliwal came into existence.nnA new chapter opened in the history of Barnala on 6th July 2013, when Barnala was created as Independent Sessions Division, providing relief to the litigants and legal fraternity who had to earlier travel to Sangrur for criminal cases, as earlier Barnala was a sub-division of Sangrur Sessions Division, therefore, to reduce the growing workload and bring about speedy disposal of cases, Barnala was created as Independent Sessions Division, which was formally inaugurated by Hon’ble High Court of Punjab and Haryana Hon’ble acting Chief Justice Jasbir Singh. Smt. Sukhvinder Kaur had joined as District & Sessions Judge at Barnala on 6th July 2013. All the Courts were also shifted to the new Judicial Court complex, adjacent to the old Judicial Court Complex, a four-story building consisting of 16 courts, Judicial Service Centre (Suvidha Centre), Canteen and Mediation Center. The provision for separate entries for Public, Employees, Advocates & Judges have been made in this court complex. The Courts Complex at Barnala is incorporated with the latest facilities and systems which not only benefits litigants, advocates, staff, and the general public but also helps in smooth & efficient working of the Judicial system. Electric Generator Set to tackle with the problem of Power Cuts, RO system for drinking water for the litigants/staff/advocates, Fire Alarm system, Fire Extinguishers, Mini EPABX Exchange to facilitate the communication network, LAN and Computer Systems, separate parking spaces for Judges, Advocates and Public, Good Sitting arrangements for the litigants, and passenger lifts, etc. are also available.
