The Belgadia Palace is surrounded by nature’s bounty & places of immense historical importance. the beautiful palace now a boutique homestay, replete with wooden staircase, full-length arch windows, dark teak wood furniture, and chandeliers dangling from wooden ceilings –captivates the visitors with its understated elegance.

Luxury Retreat At It's Best :)nnWalking into The Belgadia Palace felt almost like time-traveling! This gorgeous heritage property is the perfect place to enjoy a luxurious staycation, while getting to know a little more about the history of Mayurbhanj. From Kolkata, it was about 5 hours drive to this place, and we were welcomed with warmth by Parvez and his team. The hospitality is too good to be put to words - one needs to be there to experience it. We were 3 friends, staying in the Peacock Suite which overlooked the mango orchards.nnThere are a couple of waterfalls that can be covered, apart from the Simlipal national park and the Haripur ruins. But we didn't really feel like going out to explore 'coz we were happily enjoying our time in the palace. Mrinalika took us around and gave us a tour of the property, telling us more about the Bhanj history and her ancestors who have built this place.nnWe were treated to delicious food made in their in-house kitchen. To be honest, we couldn't have asked for a better weekend escapade :) If you're in Kolkata and looking for a place where you can spend a day or two in peace, you must consider visiting the Belgadia Palace.

The Belagadia Palace in Baripada is one of the best boutique property in Odisha. The venture is an initiative of the then Baripada royal family. Its the idea of the royal siblings Akshita Bhanjadeo and Mrinalika Bhanjadeo who manage the property now. A portion of the property has been converted into boutique hotel and the family stays in the other part. I was so happy to see the royal life style closely and a chance meeting with the current queen made my stay more worthwhile. It's a purely family run venture and they don't get any help from government. So we travellers only can encourage such a novel venture and help Odisha to attract tourists and at the same time let the people from other parts of the country and world know about the rich legacy of Odia culture and heritage.

The Belgadia Palace’s construction began on the orders of Maharani Sumitra Devi Bhanj Deo in 1804, who ruled the state from 1796 to 1810. In phased development, the palace gets its aura of majesty with intricate designs being added during the rule of her descendants. The present interiors are designed on the orders of the Bhanja dynasty's most famous ruler Sri Ram Chandra Bhanj Deo, popularly known as ‘The Philosopher King’ for his second wife Maharani Sucharu Devi, daughter of Keshab Chandra Sen, founder of the Brahmo Samaj movement famous during the Bengal Renaissance.Nestled amidst a lush green backdrop of rolling hills and sparkling waterfalls of the rich and diverse Eastern-Indian countryside is The Belgadia Palace. An 18th century victorian brick-built double-storey structure in the classical Western style of Doric-Corinthian column, a mixture of Greek and Victorian architecture.
