We almost didn't go to this temple on our trip, but happened to notice a photo on a poster in our hotel and decided to check it out -- so glad we did. Don't know about public transportation as went by car, and it's a little hard to find the main entrance down a ways to the left of the parking lot. You walk up stairs through a huge expanse of moss under tall trees more like a natural landscape than a garden -- for me, it rivalled the moss gardens of Kyoto simply by being almost deserted. The main temple area is an interesting example of an enclosed courtyard style of Zen temple and there's a three-tiered tower in the woods in back. Unfortunately, some of the charming carvings of birds and flowers on the first story are damaged or missing. Highly recommended, but take care as I didn't see any temple staff and couldn't find a rest room. There may be one in the old house of a famous author open to the public down by the entrance.

I visited for the first time after hearing the rumor that the autumn leaves are beautiful. The contrast between the green of the moss, the yellow of the ginkgo, and the red of the maple was very beautiful, and I enjoyed the best autumn leaves of the year. (^ o ^) From your posts, it seems that you have forgotten to see the Mie Tower, so I would like to create an opportunity to go again. (* _ *)

There was a time of autumn leaves, and the scenery was wonderful. The moss corridor on the approach was very nice. The three-storied pagoda is spectacular, and it is only selected as one of the Shinshu Hyakuji Temples. It is close to the Saku Minami Interchange.
