A stupa with decorative stone pillars surrounded by concentric rings, built by King “Lajjitissa” 1st century BC. (early stages of AnurapuraKindom). Scholar argument is there originally stone pillars has carried a timber framed roof . This is one of the 16 main places (“Solosmasthana”) of Budhist worship. Image attached to the review is stupa without white lime plaster. Outer plaster done in recent past may have taken out due to renovation works.
