This is called the Lion Pond because of the statue of the standing lion. Even though this is called Lion Pond, it is more likely a water spout. The water, filling in to the tank above the lion figure, is coming out of the lion's mouth. A part of it is cut out of a natural rock and the other part is constructed of stone blocks to form a square pond. The water to this tank is coming from another pond called 'Naaga Pokuna' (Cobra Pond), which is on a higher elevation, by using clay pipes. It is said that, this Lion Pond is used by the Buddhist monks who lived in Mihintale monastery.

Lion pond Although the destroyed monasteries are used as a lion pond in the Gahana area, the lion pond is a water spout that is not a pond, but a pond. This thud was designed to be especially suitable for bathing in the vicinity of the knife chest and the sanctuary of the monks living in the same way as the water flowing out of the mouth of a lion sized with stones.

Sinha Pond - Mihintale Sinha Pond is a very beautiful and beautiful creation of Mihintale sacred site. This is called a pond, but it is actually used as a water knife. It has been used for the bathing of the monks in the sanctuary. The water from the pond above it has been prepared to leave the lion's mouth. On one side it is attached to the rock, and in the other are large stone slabs. The two feet tall lion statue can be considered as a masterpiece of ancient Sri Lanka. In addition, there are beautiful carvings on the outside of the pond wall. There are dancers, singers, elephants and lions. Above this, the Naga Pond is supplied with water from underground pipelines. Lion (Sinha) Pond - Mihinthale The Mihinthale of Sinha Pokuna is considered one of the best stone sculptures of Sri Lanka. The water from Naga pokuna, whic was high elevation, was supplied via tunnels to this pond. This was used as a water rail by resident monks. Two water meter high lion from the water came out. Not only the lion figure, but also the panels of stone sculptures that give a magnificent look.
