Its a good place. But personally I don't think galle fort super scenic. Very crowded and expensive foods and other items.. people are not friendly as other part in sri lanka... I don't know what is your opinion but I think its not worth spending so much time in fort rather than spending your valuable time to enjoy beaches...

You need to pass through the gate and exit the fort for a good view of the old gate. You may need to dodge some traffic while walking through the gate but the exterior view is worth it, plus it's a short walk to a few piers and a shipwreck from here.

Historic Old Gate, the side entrance to the Fort. Gives you direct access to the square, the Dutch hospital and Pedlars Street. Great place for photographs with aesthetic backgrounds and textures. The Good Market comes alive on Saturday and is just next to the Old Gate.

If you come from the mainland this gate is on the left hand side of the fort. This is the original gate of the fort. When you pass through this gate you have this special feeling as if you are entering a time machine. As if you are entering history... When the British took over Galle Fort they moved the insignia of the Dutch East Indian Company (VoC) to the back and replaced it with the British coat of arms. Both coat of arms can still be seen today. This is a very special place. Cars, three-wheelers, motorcycles and bicycles use this gate. So be careful when taking pictures!

Beware exiting the fort, there are local touts who will follow you, chatting and before you know you’re on an unwanted tour of a spice shop (Not a market) or jewelry shop (Not a factory) it’s also highly unlikely you would bump into the chef from your hotel walking along here. Whilst they’re friendly they do get commissions and so you will be paying inflated prices
