I’m not a museum expert but I really enjoyed my time here. Very interesting and the dim lighting creates a mysterious atmosphere. Most of the exhibits are reproductions but it was all very nicely presented. There is also an outdoor area featuring a recreation of a jungle village as well as side galleries with modern art.

One of the best places to visit in Chetumal. Amazingly, the museum doesn't have original pieces (or probably, just two or three small ones), but the mockups of pyramids and other Mayan's buildings are quite interesting. The museum pretends to be an introduction to the Mayan's culture. And it's fine at that respect. Also it is worth to visit the entire building. See the patio with a huge Ceiba tree and go inside of the exhibit rooms. The time you spent there it's also a relief from the hot temperatures outside.
