Izcóatl: ‘the obsidian serpent’. He was the fourth tlatoani of the Mexica, priest and religious reformer to defeat the Tepaneca. He was the son of Acamapichtli, first tlatoani, and of a daughter of Tezozomoc, lord of Azcapotzalco, probably born in 1381. His predecessor was Chimalpopoca and his successor was Moctezuma Ilhuicamina, between the years 1427 and 1440. This image is reminiscent of the tlatoani, whose greatest representation is found in one of the bronze sculptures, popularly known as Indios Verdes, located in the north of Mexico City. The other sculpture represents the Tlatoan Ahuizotl.
