A surprising gem. En route to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) we have driven past the road to the Schuk Toak museum many times. We didn't expect much due to the remote location. We were wrong. It is a beautiful museum, full of electronic displays, interesting discussions, and very warm staff. Of course, this is not the museum you would find in New York, Chicago, San Francisco or similar. But we do not expect that. It is geologically an interesting area and a real treat for the traveler to Puerto Peñasco. Do be sure to take the hike to the dunes! The view from their top is spectacular, and as the largest dunes in North America, it is very fun to have a hike up! (Be sure to take water!) Five stars because much more than expected for the remote location.
An incredible experience ! The museum is very interesting, immaculate and its staff very friendly.
I went camping with my family (including children) at the Dunas Camp, early in the morning we went to the Dunes (approx 1 hr walking) and we were able to admire beautiful landscapes. This experience in the desert is worth living both during the day and at night. Recommendations: bring enough water, food, a tent and firewood if you are going to camp. Wear comfortable clothes to walk on the sand and cover yourself from the sun. The closest place is Puerto Peñasco (also very beautiful). We will definitely go back and this time to the craters.
It is a very beautiful place with unique architecture. It tells about the history of the place as well as natural, geological and geographical issues. In this place you can also learn about the history of the natural formation of Pinacate and the human history of the first settlers to the present day. There is a shop where you can buy souvenirs at very affordable prices and there are even some books. The gardens are very beautiful and you can tell that they are well cared for. It is located at the access to the path that leads to the dunes. The views of the place are incredible too.
Today they no longer let me go to the desert or anything because they closed at 1 and it was already 12:30, but if they charged me to visit the craters they made me fill out a register and they sent me about 70 kilometers away they paid me to take the road to Sonoyta and to go to the windows to enter the craters, after a long time we met some people who told us that they should not have charged us to enter because it was open to whoever wanted to enter, they charge me $ 72 pesos for person for nothing
We loved visiting the reserve, the museum, the dunes! We have to know the wonders of our country and the state of Sonora! Pinacate and Great Altar Desert Biosphere Reserve, check ✅!
Beautiful landscapes! Recommended on a family trip, protect yourself from the sun ☀️ and walk
