If you want to stay on a deserted beach in a palm hut then this is the place! Completely worth the effort of getting here. There is nothing to do except watch the sea, sit by a palm tree fire or lie in a hammock. Juanita is very sweet. Mexican breakfasts, lunches and dinners available (100/200MXN), the choice is either fried fish, camarones, or egg with beans, rice, tortillas. There are drinks, cocos and Corona too. Rooms are just a mattress in a palapa (sand floor). The toilets and showers are *very* basic and not to everyone's taste. You are paying for the view and the isolation. From the breakfast table I saw a pod of dolphins and mantas jumping about. Take a torch and patrol the beach and at night you can see turtles laying their eggs on the beach and maybe crocodiles in the river. Bring binoculars if you are into birds and head to the river and lagoon. The sea is too rough to swim in. Charge your phone before you come, and be aware that you might not have signal. It's about 200MXN for a taxi to Puerto Suelo from Puerto Escondido, then get the driver to blast the horn and (if she knows you're coming) Juanita will get someone to come and paddle you over the river. I tried getting there by road in a urbano and collectivo and it's not worth the faff. Alternatively you can get an urbano to Las Negras (35 MXN) and then a boat along the lagoon (100 MXN).

Beautiful place in front of the ocean; it's hard to get over there, but it's worthy. Juanita and Julio, her husband, are very nice people. You can drink beer, coconut water, and eat fish.

Great fun, nice people. Bioluminescent on dark nites.
