When someone thinks of design and architecture in the Netherlands, they think of "De Stijl". This movement, radical as few in its conception, took its name from the magazine "de Stijl", by Theo van Doesburg. Its simplicity and forcefulness characterized it. In the formal, vertical and horizontal lines, straight. In the chromatic, yellow, red and blue. In a world saddened by the past war, they offered a festival of color and life. Mondrian, Oud, Bart van der Leek, and especially the author of this chair in question, Gerrit Rietveld, who created it in 1923. It's probably not the most comfortable chair in the world to sit on, but it contributed to a revolution. Nothing was the same after "De Stijl".
