Sleeping Mars (muurschildering)
Reviews
Johan Hoekstra (12/08/2020)
The Sleeping March, by Hendrik ter Brugghen from 1629, is one of three unique murals by Utrecht painters from the 17th century. A 12-meter high side wall of the 'Verdomhoekje' on the Westplein has been decorated with an eye-catcher by the painters' collective De Strakke Hand. This project was developed together with the Centraal Museum, the municipality and Utrecht Marketing, following the exhibition in early 2019 (Utrecht, Caravaggio and Europe). Following the famous Caravaggio, the 17th century Utrecht painters played with light and dark. The painters of De Strakke Hand worked together for seven days to complete this work of art. To be seen day and night!
