Don't miss it, don't miss it! This beautiful tower, symbol of the pride, self-assurance and wealth of Kampen, stands head and shoulders above the city. After the chapel of the Heilige-Geestgasthuis was burned down in 1646, the city council decided to build a Renaissance-style bell tower here. Construction took place in two periods: 1649-1655 and 1660-1663. The tower itself was designed by carpenter Dik Jansz from Edam and the lantern in which the carillon hangs is a design by Philip Vingboons. Since 1993, the carillon has counted 47 bells (spanning four octaves), 29 of which are still from François Hemony's original 30-bell carillon. The playing of the carillonneur certainly brightened my visit to Kampen on a somewhat gloomy, cloudy autumn day!

What a noise every time. That he occasionally plays, fine. Belongs to the city. But that you really think that everyone is waiting twice a week to listen to that whining for an hour, then you have to scratch yourself behind the ears. It gives me a headache. Do not force your hobby on others and play keyboard with headphones in your attic, where you will not bother anyone else.

The New Tower is located on Oudestraat in Kampen where the chapel of the Holy Spirit guesthouse has been. This chapel burned down in 1646. The detached bell tower was built in the period 1649-1663. The stone substructure of the tower was designed by the carpenter Dirck Jansz. from Edam. The lantern is a design by Philips Vingboons, who originally designed it for the city hall, now Royal Palace, in Amsterdam, but which was never realized there. [1] The construction industry had many setbacks, the work even stopped completely in the period 1655-1660.
