I have been helped very well twice without any benefit (financial compensation) for the owner. The first time I came with a pair of (very) old shoes on which I wanted a new sole. Owner: "I'd rather not do that, because the seam is so worn that it breaks even sooner than the sole."
Second time I came with a leather bag of which the zipper kept breaking open and the request to insert a new zipper. Owner: "Not necessary, I just have to squeeze Runnertje tighter." I was not allowed to pay for it.
A very good shoemaker, he makes your shoes and boots like new again, we are very happy with this man.
