Rembrandtplaats

The Rembrandtplaats is a square commemorating the birth place of Rembrandt van Rijn, who was born in Leiden and also worked there before he moved to Amsterdam. However during the firestorm of city renewal in the sixties and seventies of the previous century, his 16th century birth house was demolished to make room for a rather ugly piece of modern architecture which will probably not survive long into the future. Only a plague in the building front reminds of the historical significance ... moreover there is a small hill on which a statue of the great artist and a text board giving some background.

Nice morning at Rembrandt plaats, Visited the ally of Rembrandts birthplace quiet location on Sunday morning. City centre has a lot of cafes and nice for morning walks. Can spend a morning in Liden the university town. Could see lot of students visiting the tourist spot with local guides giving orientation of the town. Also visited the Citadel built in 1150 and view from the top the city of Liden.

My dog and I regularly visit this spot because of its beauty and history, and Rufus likes routines. Beyond the sculpture of a young Rembrandt, there is a beautiful mural on the wall and lovely adjacent butterfly garden. This is definitely a must see on the walk around the Singelloop.
