The church is pretty although the parish is run extremely poorly.

The heating in the large hall is on non existent, so it can be cold at times. No WiFi, but WiFi from adjacent places (het klooster, kasteel woerden) can be picked up from in the church.

That this church is imposing seems at least an understatement: the nearly 78-meter tower is in 31st place on the list of High Church Towers in NL (!) (Maintained by Wikipedia), the nave and the aisles are also not modest. That is how it is: the father of Nicolaas Molenaar (who would later design this church), was the carpenter / contractor in Sneek of one of the many neo-gothic basilicas of Pierre Cuypers (who also designed the Rijksmuseum and Central Station in Amsterdam). Son watched the art, learned the trade and became an architect. At the same time, the Roman Catholic Netherlands again had the right, after having camped in shelters for 200 years, to build their own houses of worship. There must have been some revanchism. Motto: and now we show that we are there. So: into the sky! But it wasn't that far in Woerden yet. First there had to be a town hall. To make a long story short: B&W were charmed by the town hall in Noordwijk (design: Nicolaas Molenaar). But something went wrong in the drawing table phase. A local architect took credit. Copyrights did not yet exist. But! Finish well, well after some time. Because, after it was made into a National Affair (plagiarism! Shame!), A law on copyright was passed by the Lower House, Nicolaas Molenaar was commissioned for this church. Whether the tower would have become that high without the affair? Who knows may say. Woerden has been enjoying this national monument for almost a century and a half.
