Beautifully restored medical castle. Not possible (nor worth it probably) to visit inside because the renovation modernized the inside to accommodate offices. The gardens are open to public and are quiet, relaxing and very enjoyable with some beautiful views on the castle exterior. To bad nobody sells some drinks here, especially in the weekend...

I wasted my time going there. It was hard to take a road trip and listen on inter-phone: this is a private castle. It isn't opened for visitation.

Beautiful castle in this small village Nederhorst den Berg.

Nederhorst Castle is first mentioned in the 13th century. The current beautiful building dates from the early 18th century. In 1966 part of it was rented to Toonder Studios, known for the comic strip about Ollie B. Bommel ("a gentleman of standing") and his friend Tom Poes. That is why the building is also called Bommelstein. Later Toonder also invented Loeki de Leeuw for TV commercials. Lord Bommel was best known for his beloved statements such as "Tom Poes, make up a ruse" when it became too much for him. Nowadays the story goes that someone also said to his daughter "Ivanka, make up a ruse". But that may not be true either ...
