Unfortunately, I have attended a funeral at Crematorium and Uitvaartcentrum Haarlemmermeer several times. I also had a funeral 'take place' here twice, that of my father and grandmother. It's a nice place, it's light, spacious, with a beautiful view. The staff are attentive, sweet and professional.

Last week at this funeral center was the funeral of a good friend of mine. I had known the man for 40 years. The funeral itself was orderly. But I was shocked by the lack of usability of this NEW building for people with disabilities: 1. For example, someone in a wheelchair cannot reach the toilet independently. The access to the toilet is also difficult to operate independently. Moreover, the toilet is on the small side. No account has been taken of the general guidelines for a wheelchair toilet. 2. No room has been created for someone in a wheelchair in the funeral room, so that he or she can independently join someone sitting on a couch next to him or her. He or she can - alone - go all the way in front or at the back. 3. Neither has account been taken of the fact that someone from a wheelchair would like to make a speech behind the lectern like everyone else does. The lectern was not accessible for someone in a wheelchair. And the lectern could not be adjusted in height. That is why this crematorium does not get enough from me; so two stars.

I have Wednesday, March 3, last have to leave a good friend with you. The ceremony that we had arranged ourselves was beautiful. The part of your company was so far below standard that I do not even want to give it the number 0. I will gladly explain it in person if you need it. None of your staff, the ladies who walk around there, are suitable for the position they hold. The wife of the deceased was completely upset by a comment from one of your female employees. No respect at all. Too bizarre for words. More people have since learned that this has not been an exception, Ted.

Nicely situated under the smoke of Schiphol, so that airplanes took off and trains passed by on their way to unknown destinations during the ceremony. What a symbolism.
