Beautiful sculpture by Reynaert. You can, for the most part, recognize figures on the bas-relief. The place seems less well chosen, right next to an approach road.

Beautiful image of Reynaert de Vos, which emphasizes the connection between the city and Reynaert. The statue was given a place of honor on the left of the Gentsepoort by the city, in a beautiful green setting. The statue was designed by the Antwerp sculptor A.Damen and was unveiled in 1938 at the Houtmarkt. After W.O.II the image was then moved here

This monument testifies to the Reynaert tradition that lives in the land of Hulst. It is a bronze cast statue with a hard stone background that shows the Court Day of King Nobel. It is therefore not without reason that Hulst also calls itself Reynaertstad. "It was in a tsinxen daghe" This is the beginning of the medieval animal epic Van den vos Reynaerde, which was written in the thirteenth century. In its genre, it is one of the highlights of Dutch and even Western European literature. The story is about the artful fox Reynaert, who with his cunning pranks chops the values ​​and norms of the time. As in any animal epic, the main characters are animals that behave like humans. In visual language, the story provides a witty and often ironic sketch of society and is distinguished by a fine character drawing of the characters.
