Excellent and affordable service. Very professional advice re issues with the bike. Also, good suggestions for new bike for my son.
Fantastic shop with great service. Any shop that stocks a lot of Hope components is a shop worth visiting! I tested a Ritchey Ultra which is a steel hardtail with 73mm wide 650b tires. With all that traction and a responsive steel frame it was a great climber. It also felt light and responsive - much more than I expected. We covered about 35km on the ride. My normal ride is a Cannondale Scalpel Carbon 29er so that was my comparator. Rob we great with bike setup and very helpful. This is a highly recommended shop.
Rob was so kind to give me a Ritchey Ultra to test around my home trails. It was a pleasant surprise, although some people warned me for this.
Just from the looks you can easily tell this is a high quality frame. The welds are beautiful, as well as the paint-job and graphics. It has a very classic look to it, although this hardtail has some modern frame characteristics. I like the simplicity, but I can also imagine that some people might find it too understated. The key highlight of the bike is the overall weight. It feels extremely light which is interesting considering this is a steel frame. While riding some gnarly trails, the steel frame remains very quiet and it has a sturdy feel to it. Difficult to describe but great to experience.
The trails which I rode can be described as a combination of X-country and the more technical singletracks with some significant steep elevation. I rode it with the 27.5 X 2.8 tires and with a 120mm Reba. From the first moment that you sit on the bike and start pedalling you feel at home. I am sure that the 2.8 tires give you some comfort a well, but the steel frame does not feel that hard and has a forgiving factor to it. One day I rode the bike for 4 hours and my body did not feel sour at all. It is hard to stop pedalling, there are not a lot of other hardtails who give you that same experience and comfort.
The key highlight for me is the bike’s climbing capability. The geometry can be considered to be aggressive, but not to the extreme. I like how the bike reacts when the front wheel tries to come loose during steep technical root sections, it is very easy to move your body to the front and keep the wheel down. The bike is very reactive. For the descends, the bike gives you a lof of confidence. Of course it will be hard to compete with the fullies of the modern age, but I am sure that you will be able to keep up. And when it gets too rough, you brake and pick your lines. The bike gives you a well balanced feel.
It is hard to say something which is less good about the bike. I was not a huge fan of the dropper post that came with it, but I guess this is just personal taste. It has a hefty price tag for a steel frame but from my point of view the build and ride quality can justify this. Also, it is refreshing to see a different bike on the parking lot when you ride with your buddies.
Thanks Rob for the opportunity and great service! Keep up the good work.
One of the best and possibly thé best bike mechanic in the entire region for your high-end mountainbike. Knowledgeable, professional and personal. You do pay a little extra for that though. They sell mainly super high-end bikes and parts but stock good cheaper value for money ones too. Shop is even worth a visit for all the special bikes and parts on display. Always enjoy visiting. Highly recommended.
Excellent bicycle shop, friendly and very helpful, understands the problems that a customer sometimes has and looks for / thinks along for solutions. Recommended.
