No complaints at all. Two rentals within 12 days: on both occasions a nice upgrade, no surprises on the contract, paid exactly what I booked. Made reservations with Avis directly and not through some discount website, for €16 a day not worth the hassle some people apparently dealt with.

Always video the car before and after keep the petrol receipt when you fill up the car on return and take a picture if the full tank you do not have to pay for added on extras when you arrive at faro airport. Yes these people are full of every con and scam you can think of lucky for me and unfortunately for them. I was well informed and researched. I am now reclaiming the £70 claimed out of my deposit and the extras we were conned into. My advice would be to record the whole event of collecting the rental. And upon return. The staff here are trained to smile and con you by refusing to release the rental unless you pay for extras.

ASK FOR A WRITTEN COPY OF THE RENTAL CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING. I echo Deborah's comments below that this Avis branch scams its customers as I had a very similar experience. I rented a car from Avis Faro and when asked if I wanted insurance I said "no". The assistant had told me she was going to put a charge on my card for the petrol and that I would get it back if I returned full. There's a screen to sign (which is just a box and not an actual contract and its all in portuguese) which they say they'll email to you. I returned the car when I got to Lisbon and on arrival they asked for the insurance charge which I explicitly declined. Faro airport says they can't help you and tells you to contact customer service who also can't help you. Very very disappointed.

This Avis station is a mafia sales center !! The employees try to sell you additional things in a way that you even don’t know what you sign. I got scammed and I am having a lot of car rental done but this is criminal / mafia methods. When you signed the document nothing can be done anymore . Please be extremely careful!
