It is assumed that the icon was painted in the icon-painting workshop at the Leushinsky John the Baptist Convent, commissioned by the Gatchina merchant Gabriel Medvedev, who donated it to the monastery in early 1860. One of the image lists is still in the iconostasis of the Leushinsky Compound in St. Petersburg. A special list at the beginning of the 20th century was made for the holy righteous John of Kronstadt, on which, with the blessing of the Mother Superior of Taisia, the inscription "I am with you, and no one to you."
