Church of Saint Isidor the Martyr over Griboyedov Canal. Saint Isidor was the Orthodox Parish Priest in the city of Yuryev (Dorpat in German) now Tartu in modern Estonia. Local Catholic Bishop ordered convertion of Isidor and his flock to Catholicism. Saint Isidor and all seventy two his parishioners refused and were drowned in 1472.

Now the facade is covered and under restoration. Nice temple that, next to the canal, gives a wonderful sight to anyone walking near.

Church of San Isidoro. Months before our trip to Russia in August 2019, I located this very curious church on Maps, in addition to being green my favorite color, I wrote it down on the agenda to include it in the planning. The only thing is that we couldn't see it inside because it was closed when we went. Then we saw San Nicolas de los Marinos, and had dinner at the Hard Rock, both close by. I recommend them if you are going to visit the Mariinsky theater.

It is located at one of the most picturesque places in St. Petersburg - at the corner between Rimsky-Korsakov Avenue and Lermontovsky Avenue, and to the Griboretov Canal. The opening of the temple is related to the Orthodox Estonian parish that appeared in the town in 1894. The number of Orthodox Estonians in the city at this time, according to various sources, ranges from 4 to 16 thousand people. The initiator of the organization of the construction of the church "St. Isidore" is Paul Kulbush. The temple was built with donations collected throughout Russia. The first installment and blessings of the church were given by Father John of Kronstadt. Emperor Nicholas II also contributed to the construction. Since 1923, it has been taken over by the Patriarchal Church and the Theological Institute is operating here. After the temple closed in 1935, the building was transferred to the Art Fund. The restoration of the church began in 1994. In the period from 1997 to 2011, an extensive restoration was carried out during which the unique stained glass windows, iconostases and paintings were recreated. If you cross the Kashin Bridge or the Old Nicholas Bridge, you will also see the Nicholas-Epiphany Maritime Council, in front of it there is a park and a monument dedicated to the battleship Emperor Alexander III.

I remember this church without domes, dilapidated. Now everything is restored and decorates the beautiful area of St. Petersburg Kolomna. The temple was built in 1907 in the Russian-Byzantine style by the architect Polishchuk. I was upset that I seemed not to be happy. I hope another time will be different.
