Such a friendly hotel with amazing staff. Would highly recommend it. Such a wonderful atmosphere. Everyone can mix with the guests as people from all walks of life come here British, Russian Tunisian and Algerian. Family owned hotel. I have stayed here twice and I am now booked up for December, my second home. I would give RESIDENCE Mahmoud 10 stars if I could.
Cool
We stayed there for 12 days / 10 nights at the end of June beginning of July 2019.
The pool is not very big but we went in mid season and there was hardly anyone there, it was great.
Breakfast: hard-boiled eggs / bread / toast / watermelon / hot milk / powdered chocolate / coffee / Buffala-type cheese / tomatoes / marbled cake / butter / jam / orange juice.
Full, buffet style, in the beautiful dining room. Pleasant!
The hotel is super big, don't be fooled by the fairly simple exterior appearance and the rather small facade: the hotel is splendid, with decoration everywhere (for example in the corners of the staircase landings!) , absolutely superb.
The photos available on Tripadvisor are not to the advantage of the hotel, in reality it is really more beautiful!
In particular, you will find several areas with sofas / cushions, to (re) lay down there ... very cocooning spirit!
The majority of the clientele is Russian, but fortunately for me the staff spoke French rather well.
The indoor restaurant "picolo paradisio" is moderately priced and very good! We often ordered there.
However, we kept a salty aftertaste because of some disappointments: the waiter who made a mistake several times in our order even though I repeated it 3 times (and who does not fix his mistake, too bad for us), 3 spoons tablespoons of white shells without salt or oil for our infant invoiced 3 €, several errors on the invoices to our disadvantage of course, ... we had taken the habit of ordering ice cream every afternoon the last days: 3 scoops we went to 2 then 1 only (always for the same price) over the days, without explanation. I asked why every day the quantity is decreasing but not the price, the waiter tells us it was not for nothing and can not tell us anything more?
(I take a star off my overall rating for these reasons.)
So we often went to eat at La Pizzeria La Luna a few hundred meters away, absolutely delicious and at low prices (on the other hand not at all the same atmosphere, rather big mess).
Too bad we love the Picolo Paradisio restaurant, but we don't like being taken for idiots.
Speaking of distance, the hotel is far from the city center, you will have to take a taxi (3-4 dinars) or have concrete legs (30min walk) to reach it.
It has a “private” beach (in fact anyone can go) 2 steps away, that's great. On the other hand, as often in Hammamet, the beach is very dirty.
We first stayed in a street side room, the noise was terrible (24 hour horn, motorbike / car racing, etc).
We didn’t sleep a night (not even my baby), the noise was hell worse than in Bombay!
Fortunately, our receptionist changed our room the next day on the garden side and there, Olympian calm ... brilliant. When I tell you the staff are awesome! :-)
Be careful, the hotel is very large as I told you previously, but does not have an elevator and above all is crammed with stairs absolutely everywhere (even just to enter the establishment).
The hotel won't be friendly if you don't like the steps.
Our disabled grandmother was kindly put on the ground floor but just to access the rooms you have to count around thirty steps (you have to cross the entrance of the hotel so ten to show and the same for go down then another ten to access the ground floor rooms) ...
In front of the hotel you have 2 gentlemen who take care of security and 1 other who will sometimes help you to cross this avenue worthy of a Formula 1 circuit if like me you are on the verge of a heart attack when you start (Tunisian driving ... drivers only stop at the last moment, you have to have a good heart)
I visited the Dar Mahmoud residence for two nights, in general it can be fine compared to the proximity to private beaches and nightclubs except the air conditioning does not work, the price is very interesting. I recommend it to everyone.
The hotel impressions were good, rested in early September. hotel on solid 3 *. Cozy, polite staff and beautiful grounds. no noise, grace. the beach is very close, across the road. we had breakfast and dinner, I had enough food. cleaned every day, minus only one is the cold floors in the room, and so everything is fine. I advise)
