Ciaotou Sugar Refinery Station

Nice learning experience about Taiwan history and culture. I wish they offered a tour guide to tell you more and shops dedicated to the sugar refinery. Other than that nice areas to take pictures or just sit and relax and enjoy the view. There are vendors where you can rent electric bicycles and drive around the area and explore and try the food and learn about it's history.

This place is absolutely breathtaking. I would recommend visiting in the twilight hours, because it really adds to the aesthetic of the area. This is one of the most haunting places I have been. The rust and paint, along with the whole abandoned and haunted air that permeates the entire factory is undescribable. The bomb bunkers add to that atmosphere, continuing to remind us of the deep and complex history of the island. Everything is beautifully preserved and gives the impression that it has not been touched since the very day it was abandoned. It seems to be straight out of some apocalyptic, industrialist fairytale.nThis is an amazing place for the thrill seeker. It is also a great family location, and has many trains for young children to play on, rental bikes, an educational experience you won't forget, and great popsicles as an added bonus. Be warned however, that most of the shops and restaurants close around sunset, and the refinery is not lighted.nThe refinery starts right outside the train station, and the bright, cat themed station will delight feline-lovers.nAs a writer and artist, I get endless inspiration from this chillingly, terrifyingly beautiful place. I go here whenever I can, but especially in the hours where i can find the most solitude, especially in the early morning on weekdays.nI hope you fall in love with this place as much as I do.
