Wine cellar "Owl's Nest", "Bogolvar" In the center of Uzhgorod, among many ancient buildings and other architectural monuments, a special place is occupied by the brewery "Owl's Nest", which is also called "Bogolvar" or "cellars Rakotsi". The latter is associated with the name of Prince Ferenc Rakoczi, who allegedly laid these cellars for storing beer kegs. The brewery building was built in 1781, as evidenced by the date on the facade. Then in Transcarpathia there was a surge of winemaking and trade. "Owl's Nest" at that time was near the entrance to the market. Initially, the room was divided into two parts. In the lower part they stored food and drinks, and in the upper part there was a brewery. In the 18th century, Transcarpathian wine became popular, it appeared on the tables of the inhabitants of Prussia, Russia and Poland. However, after the liquidation of factory equipment, the brewery became a hotel, then - a school, and even later - a carpentry school. At the beginning of the 20th century, a wine bar was opened in the Owl's Nest, and the building was associated with strong drinks. In the 1940s, the premises began to be demolished. Only the part that was an architectural monument was lucky to survive. For many years, the condition of the "Owl's Nest" was unsatisfactory. However, in 2011 the Owl's Nest was restored in Uzhhorod. Now various festivals are held here, the most famous is the festival of young wine "Transcarpathian Beaujolais" (from 17 to 20 November). For tourists, travelers and just lovers of good wine - this is an ancient building with an interesting history, it has open tasting rooms.
