The village of Gorodok has existed since the middle of the XV century, and in 1470 it became the property of Prince Semyon of Nesvizh. After the prince's death, the castle together with the small island on which it was built, the prince's widow donated to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Thus began the history of the Horodok monastery. It is first mentioned in the chronicles of 1516.
