The Potocki Palace in Odessa: luxurious decoration, mysterious caves, it is a masterpiece in itself, not to mention the grandiose exposition of the Art Museum, which is now within its walls. The palace is a complete mystery. Even the date of its construction is a mystery - either 1826, or 1810. The window to the floor in the ballroom of the palace looks mysterious. Previously, there was a door that, during the time of the estate's prosperity, led to a magnificent garden, and the garden harmoniously descended to the sea coast. Now there is no door, no wide staircase, no garden. Another mysterious place in the palace, more precisely, under it is a huge artificial grotto with a waterfall and mysterious caves. Traps for robbers were once built in these underground passages. And what about the person of Sophia Potocka, a spy and adventurer, a cohabitant of many celebrities, who managed to become a Polish aristocrat. It was she who gave this palace to her daughter Olga. And about Olga herself, contemporaries wrote that she "was a real Messalina", because in Odessa "there was no grandee who was not in touch with her." At the estate, the hosts held balls and led a luxurious life. Now, when visiting the museum, you can admire the chic interiors.
