Viktor Yedynak. Your Guide In Ukraine (01/02/2021)
This building of the XVII century is an architectural monument of national importance. In 1657 the castle withstood the siege of the Cossacks, and decades later - the Tatars. However, the Turks later destroyed the fortress, which after reconstruction became a strategic outpost of Poland. At the entrance to the castle was a moat with a bridge to a two-story gate. The fortress housed living quarters, a chapel, barracks, a hexagonal tower with huge cellars, and others. As provisions and ammunition were stored in the castle, it was the epicenter of military skirmishes. After a fire in 1768, the fortress never rose from the ruins again. In the following years, a soda factory was opened here, which also burned down. Back in the 60's of the twentieth century, there were large fragments of defensive walls around the preserved eastern tower, but only a small part of the north-western wall and tower have survived to this day.

One tower and the remains of another remain from the castle. It is difficult to get to Rakovets - the road is paved, but all in pits. But here is a beautiful view of the Dniester, especially at sunset.

Recommended for visiting. In a few decades, the castle may be completely destroyed. Hurry up to look at 400-500-year-old buildings. The coat of arms of Radwan [3] was erected by Dominic Wojciech Benewski (Benevski [1], Benevski [2]) in the middle of the 17th century. Construction was completed in 1660. Chashniki belonged to the highest stratum of feudal lords and were close relatives of the prince. Construction was completed in 1660. In 1657 the castle (at that time still unfinished) withstood the siege of the Cossacks. Decades later, in 1667, the Tatars tried to storm the fortress (also without success). However, the Turks twice (in 1672 and 1676) managed to capture and destroy it. The Poles repulsed it [2]. After reconstruction, the castles of Rakovec and neighboring Chernelytsia became important outposts of the Commonwealth in the wars of King Jan III Sobieski against the Turks, in particular in the Wallachian campaigns of 1685–1691. / Wikipedia /
