The "New Synagogue" in Chortkiv (the manor of David Moshe Friedman's tzadik (1838-1904), built in 1905 - 1909. The architect was the Vienna master Hans Geldkremer. The style of the synagogue is pseudo-oriental. The building is quadrangular with two beautiful towers, two tower towers). The ceiling of the synagogue was covered with stone carvings, rich ornamentation and painting by Italian masters, and a carved altar inside the Jews in 1910-1914, annually arrived by a chief rabbi from Vienna or Paris and held worship services for Jews coming from from the cities of Galicia, Austria, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia and Russia.In 1765 the Chortkiv Jewish community numbered 812 Hebrews and 56 Karaites. In 1797, Chortkiv already had 121 houses owned by Jews and 232 by Christians. born in Chortkiv one of the most famous Austrian Hebrew writers of Hebrew origin, Karl Emil Francozs, (1848-1904), the great Rabbi David Moshe Fridman (1827-1904), founder of the Hasidic dynasty , who came from Chertkov. In 1888 he opened the Torah Study Society at Chertkov, which gave more than one Torah expert to the world. Further, the throne of the Chortkiv Hasidic court was embraced by his son Rabbi Israel (1854-1934). During the First World War, Rabbi Israel traveled to Marienbad and then to Vienna. Rabbi Nahum Mordecai (1875-1946) became the third devil's tzaddik. He died in Tel Aviv. This Hasidic dynasty still exists today.
